Welcome...

I created these pages to assist those fellow carers that have travelled to Moscow (or planning to) to seek HSCT treatment at the Pirogov Hospital.  It is a serious and stressful period and I hope that these notes will assist in making the carers' journey a little easier.

In Oct 2014 I accompanied my wife Moscow to receive HSCT treament for her MS. During these 30 days I lived, travelled, ate in and around the Izmailovo area of Moscow.

As with any location it grows, changes and develops over time, therefore these pages should be read with that in mind, and the information is offered in the spirit of assistance with no guarantee of accuracy at a point of time in the future.

If you find any errors please feel free to send through suggested corrections or changes.  Perhaps as a group of HSCT carers we can maintain these pages for these that follow after us.

Good luck,

Paul.

  2. Hi Paul, this is fantastic resource - thank you so much for putting it together. I am going to Moscow in a couple of weeks to be with my sister Jane. I'm taking over the companion role from my Dad who is taking her over. Dad wants me to ask you a question - one that I think is crazy, but it's easier to just ask than to argue with him :). He wants to know if he should take a suit. I can't imagine why he might need one, but I promised I'd ask. Thanks so much, and I hope Natalie is doing fantastically. Cheers, Nicole

    1. Hi Nicole, it depends on what he's planning to do! Ballroom dancing perhaps!! There are only 3 things you generally get up to, being at the hospital, eating out, and a little bit of tourism - can't see where the suit fits in, but he's probably got more style than I do! Regards, Paul.

    2. Paul, thank you for setting up this site. It was a great basis for getting comfortable here and making decisions on what is best for the caregiver to do. If anybody else is wondering, I do have a differing opinion on the suit. Moscovites tend to be fashionable and I brought a suit with me. It isn't at all necessary, but I was treated quite differently while wearing it. I wore a busniess travelers' non-wrinkle suit on the plane ride over from Boston->JFK->Helsinki->Moscow. I didn't regret it for a second, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. With that said, I agree with 99% of what it on this site, WELL DONE AND THANK YOU! Incredible resource :)
